Safe Babies Foster Homes Needed

There are over 1,000 children and youth on Vancouver Island right now who are not able to live with their families. They need a temporary home, a safe haven where they can stay while they and their families heal and become strong again.

While specific needs vary throughout the year, we are currently in need of skilled caregivers who can provide homes for Safe Babies. Safe Babies are babies prenatally exposed to drugs and/or alcohol. These babies have complex needs that require special care. Safe Babies Caregiver Training is provided to those meet the requirements.

Previous experience with children with special needs, medically fragile, or medically complex children is essential. Home should be large enough for caregivers to have a quiet place to ensure that, when necessary, a baby’s needs for reduced noise and commotion are met. Safe Babies Caregivers require a strong, skilled support system that allows caregivers to take regular breaks.

Foster Parent Support Services provides support and ongoing training to foster caregivers on Vancouver Island. If you choose to foster, you won’t be doing it alone. You will be part of a foster community that includes peer support, mentors, local area coordinators, and community resources.

If you are ready to find out more, or if you have questions, call our Regional office. We can answer your questions, explain the process, invite you to an Information Session, or direct you to the next step. If fostering isn’t right for your family today, maybe you know someone who is ready. Encourage them to take the next step. Call us.
